PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar came down heavily on the opponents of the Mopa airport and the Baiguinim waste treatment plant saying you can’t enjoy at the cost of others.
Asked about the charter slots issue at the Dabolim airport, Parrikar shot back saying, “You go and ask this question to the Save Dabolim Front.”
“I am very blunt on this. Everyone kept quite when I was trying to get Mopa. As Defence minister I gave parallel runway at Dabolim for which work is on,” he said. He said the question is not about charter slots, Navy will have to use the airport some time at least.
He also said that people who do not know anything about aviation are trying to mislead other people. “Problems of Dabolim were predicted by me seven years back. Till 2013-14 only 60 flights were getting blocked but today 120 flights are operating. But this is the limit you can’t go any further,” he said.
On Bainguinim, he said that people cannot demand development with this kind of attitude. “I understand about the World Heritage site but when you are doing something 2.5 to 3 kms away, there shouldn’t be any problem,” he explained.
”If people are so sensitive they should stop staying there and creating garbage. Let us vacate all houses and structures 500 metres from the heritage site. Is it possible? People want to enjoy at others cost,” he added.
He also questioned why people are selling land in the locality if they are so sensitive.
