Panjim: Conveying a ‘keep State clean and green’ message, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant called on the citizens to act with responsibility ensuring there is no littering in public areas.

Speaking during the launch of the Advanced Waste Collection Vehicles, procured by the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), Sawant said that every individual in the State has the responsibility to keep their environs clean.  CCP on Friday introduced 17 of these advanced waste collection vehicles to their fleet.

“Civic body workers cannot do it all alone. If you stop littering, the neighbourhood…the city…the village…the State will look clean,” he said.

The Chief Minister  pointed out how the citizens are involved in throwing their household waste in public places or the industrial waste in village areas.

“This needs to be stopped,” he said.

Sawant congratulated the CCP garbage collecting workers for their efforts to keep the city clean.

Further, Sawant said that the State government will soon be making necessary amendments to the Act to grant powers to the councils, to promote officers on their seniority basis.

He announced that in the next cabinet meeting, a proposal would be placed to promote 75 CCP officials, to fill up the seniority posts in the Corporation.

He said that as per 15th Finance Commission, more grants would be allocated to the Corporation, Municipalities and Panchayats.
