CM launches OTS scheme for power consumers

Says similar scheme would be launched for water consumers too

PANJIM: After successful launch of One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for electricity Bill consumer, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant announced that similar scheme will be launched for water bill consumers.

The One Time Settlement Scheme – 2020 by Electricity Department, Government of Goa, was launched on Monday by Chief Minister, in the presence of Minister for Power Nilesh Cabral. Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, Power Secretary Kunal, Chief Electrical Engineer Rajiv Sawant were also present for the launch.

Sawant said the scheme aims to support the consumers in clearing of their long pending dues by paying only the principle amount and the delayed payment charges will be fully or partly waived off depending on the repayment period.

All categories of consumers such as active, temporarily disconnected, permanently disconnected and for revenue recovery cases consumers can avail the benefits. 

There is also no limit on the outstanding dues pending for payments by the consumers to the department for availing the scheme, said the Chief Minister.

He said the department charges consumers a delayed payment charges (DPC) of 2 per cent per month and the accumulated arrears are very high for some of the consumers and many cases are as much as 30 years old. 

This scheme provides once in the life time opportunity to all such consumers to clear pending dues.

In order to avail the One Time Settlement Scheme 2020, the consumers will have to first register online on department’s portal www.goaelectricity.gov.in. 

The scheme will remain open for period of one month i.e. from December 1 to 31 for registration. The consumer has a choice of making payments in one or two instalments for 100 per cent waiver of delayed payment charges and part waiver of 80 per cent, 60 per cent, 40 per cent and 20 per cent of DPC for the installment period of three, four, five and six months respectively.
