CM launches Phase-II of ‘Vision for All’ programme for Goa school students

PANJIM: As part of the ongoing ‘Vision for All’ initiative in Goa, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated the second phase of the eye check-up program, set to benefit 29,725 students across the State. The launch event took place at Ravindra Bhavan in Sankhali.

This phase of the programme is a collaborative effort between the Directorate of Planning, Statistics, and Evaluation, the Directorate of Education, and Prasad Netralaya Super Speciality Eye Hospital from Udupi, Karnataka, along with support from ONESIGHT Essilor Luxottica Foundation.

Director of Education, Shailesh R Sinai Zingade, stated that the eye check-up program will span the next 50 days, building upon the success of phase-I. During the initial phase, a total of 2,05,029 students from 1,448 schools were screened, and 29,725 of them were identified for phase-II eye check-ups.

A team of ophthalmologists and eye specialists from Prasad Netralaya Super Speciality Eye Hospital and ONESIGHT Essilor Luxottica Foundation will conduct thorough eye examinations of the students. Any child found with vision defects will receive free spectacles under this initiative.

The ‘Vision for All’ program, initiated in January this year through the Goa CSR Authority, trained over 1,700 teachers to perform primary screenings using eye charts in its first phase. These teachers screened a remarkable 2.05 lakh students from government and aided schools, identifying 29,725 students with vision-related issues. Now, these students will undergo thorough examinations by technicians from Prasad Netralay Super-specialty Eye Hospital, which has tied up with the Goa government to execute the programme.
