CM lays foundation stone for irrigation project at Mopa

PERNEM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant laid foundation stone for 15 MLT Lift irrigation project at Mopa in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Babu Ajgaonkar, Chief Engineer Pramod Badami, officials of Water Resources Department, Biodiversity and others, on Friday.

“This is a 15 MLT project which is linked to the agriculture activity in the Mopa area,” said CM.

Chief Engineer Badami informed that under this lift irrigation project around 60 hectares land will be covered and around 150 to 200 families will be able to use this water for agriculture cultivation. It’s a 15 MLT project, he said.

Denying that the so-called environmentalists did not plant a single sapling at the Mopa Airport area, the Chief Minister said, “Only 50,000 trees are cut for the Mopa Airport project and as replacement we are planting five lakh saplings. Those who call themselves environmentalists and were raising objections have not planted even a single sapling here. We are balancing the nature by planting fruit bearing as well as trees which will balance the airport’s surrounding ecology.”

Member Secretary of Biodiversity Pradeep Mukadam said, “Around four lakh of the five lakh saplings are already planted in the State out of which 90,000 are planted in Mopa Airport’s jurisdiction itself.”
