PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant took a dig at the Congress party after the resignation of Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro and the imminent induction of former Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado into the party that has now been reduced to four MLAs in the House.
“They will go to Congress if they want to commit political suicide,” Sawant said, responding to media queries on the political developments ahead of the upcoming 2022 elections in the State.
He claimed that Congress has been on a decline since 2017 when although it had 17 MLAs, it failed to form a government. “It is a custom in Congress to join other parties. The trend is visible since 2017. Nobody wants to stay in a party where there is no Central or State leadership,” he added, speaking on the sidelines of an event on World Tourism Day.
The CM’s comments were in the wake of resignations by Faleiro, Congress’ general secretaries Yatish Naik and Vijay Pai and secretaries Mario Pinto and Anand Naik.
The CM also said, “No one wants to remain in a sinking ship.”
