PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is likely to be away from Goa for the next six weeks as he will be shifted to US on Tuesday for further medical treatment.
Parrikar, who is suffering from pancreatitis ailment, was on Monday afternoon shifted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai as a part of his treatment. He was accompanied by his elder son Utpal and other family members.
In a statement released on Monday, the Chief Minister’s Office confirmed that Parrikar would be travelling to Mumbai for further medical checkup and based on doctor’s advice may travel overseas for further treatment.
Parrikar has been ill since last one month. He
was admitted to Lilavati Hospital on February 15, after he initially complained of stomach pain.
Chief Minister returned to Goa on February 22 and on the very same day also tabled the State Budget 2018-19 before the Goa Legislative Assembly.
“As part of his medical treatment, he has been shifted to Mumbai today. Following doctors’ advice, further decision will be taken on whether to shift him abroad for treatment,” former BJP MLA Sidharth Kuncalienker informed media persons after meeting Parrikar at his personal residence in Dona Paula.
Kuncalienker said Parrikar will be out of State for at least six weeks.
Sources revealed that while the treatment is restricted to only one-two weeks, Chief Minister will be kept under isolation-cum-observation of the medical experts for another three weeks.
“Some of the best doctors in the field will be treating Parrikar in the US. The doctors have already studied the case papers. Doctors from Lilavati had sent the reports to US, last month itself,” sources said.
The Chief Minister was admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) at Bambolim on February 25 due to dehydration and low blood pressure. He was discharged on March 1.
