PANJIM: State government is contemplating promoting State’s wild corners for film shooting to push the boundaries of Goa tourism beyond sun, sand and sea.
Addressing World Wildlife Week celebration, the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that Goa’s wildlife has wide scope to develop into hinterland or wildlife tourism. “The time has come when we need to promote Goa beyond sun, sand and sea. We need to attract our tourists towards wildlife sanctuaries,” he said.
“Allowing film shooting in the wildlife areas will help Goa to showcase its forest at International platform. This will help in promoting wildlife tourism, which has lot of scope,” he said.
Sawant said that the forest department is already working to promote eco-tourism in the State’s wildlife sanctuaries. “More efforts need to be put in. We are not able to attract the tourist towards nature. New and innovative ideas need to be worked out to promote eco-tourism or wildlife tourism,” he said.
Speaking further, Sawant said that around 260 local youth are trained as nature guide while 200 Vaidha Mitra are certified.
Sawant also appealed farmers to take benefit of subsidy from the Medicinal Plant Board to grow medicinal plants.
which has lot of demand in the medical world.
