PORVORIM: In a major setback to the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) promoters, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday told the House that the State government has not decided to withdraw the first information report (FIR) against unknown in the illegal allotments of 38 lakh sq mts of land.
He was replying to the question tabled by Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat, who sought to know the status of the FIR in the matter related to the SEZ allotment.
Sawant said that ACB registered a criminal case on the complaint of Mandar Shirodkar, Dy General Manager, Legal, Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), against unknown officials of IDC regarding arbitrary and illegal allotment of land in SEZ in Goa to various companies and the matter is under investigation.
The FIR also named seven SEZ promoters, to whom the land was allotted.
In August 2019, IDC had resolved to withdraw the FIR registered in the case, after taking back the land allotted to the companies. IDC has already unlocked 24 lakh sq mts of land from five promoters.
