In a scathing attack against the authorities, Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai has said that the government, Chief Minister (CM), NRI Office and the Salcete BJP MLA’s will be solely responsible for the delay in repatriation or any deaths of Goan seafarers stranded overseas.
“Beware ! Goenkars are watching” warned Vijai, while pointing out that the delay in getting the seafarers back is unending. Vijai questioned, “What has happened since the Prime Minister was informed last week? Is the government interested or not? We want a straight answer, not this merry go round.”
While reaching out to the seafarers, Vijai said, “I did not speak publicly till now as I didn’t want the government’s antipathy to me to lead to any grandstanding and affect your cause. Also, I didn’t want some self proclaimed seafarer leaders to feel that I’m invading on their turf.”
Vijai further added, “Till now, we have been hearing only empty promises from the government. Yesterday’s announcement by the government after meeting with Salcete BJP MLA’s is tomfoolery. What is new in that, which we don’t know?” Vijai quipped, while mocking the constant promises of the government to bring back the seafarers.
The former Deputy Chief Minister demanded answers from the government and said, “Concrete steps needed. Have a risk assessment immediately through the Embassies. Take help of the military in Goa to draw a viable rescue plan.”
