MARGAO: Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar on Saturday asked the Colva police whether they require the assistance of the CID Crime branch to solve the Benaulim Tabernacle theft case.
Three days after miscreants lifted the Tabernacle from the Church, the Chief Minister along with Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva visited the Church to inquire about the progress of investigations.
He interacted with the Parish Priest Fr Nelson Colaco, who narrated to the Chief Minister how the miscreants lifted away the Tabernacle containing the Blessed Sacrament.
The Chief Minister later sought details from Colva PI Uttam Raut Desai and further sought to know whether the Colva police requires the assistance of the CID Crime Branch in taking the investigations to the logical conclusion. PI Raut Desai replied to the Chief Minister that the Colva police are working hard to achieve a breakthrough in the theft and mystery surrounding the case.
Meanwhile, the Parish Priest of St John the Baptist Church, Fr Nelson Colaco conducted a prayer service in the Church this evening.  He told Herald that the prayer service was conducted to pray for the parishioners as well as the miscreants responsible behind the theft.
PI Dessai said he rounded up 15 suspects who were interrogated but could not obtain any clue in connection with the case.  He also said that the police have not been able to trace the tabernacle till date. The police are baffled over the mystery surrounding the theft since the doors and windows of church were found locked and closed when the theft took place.
