PANJIM: Following the Herald report on non-action of the government against the Mangor Hill doctor, who became a super-spreader in the locality, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday called for an inquiry into the matter.
Herald in its Wednesday’s edition had questioned whether the ‘highly connected’ doctor was being shielded by a powerful politician.
Reacting to the story, Sawant said that an inquiry will be conducted by Health Secretary Nila Mohanan. “I have asked the Health Secretary to look into the matter and action will be taken as deemed fit, if found guilty,” Sawant said.
The doctor’s negligence in handling the COVID patients led to spread of the virus in Mangor Hill, which is now the epicentre of COVID cases in Goa.
The medical fraternity opined that the doctor erred in judging the sickness and raised suspicion that he could be a ‘quack’. The practitioners also alleged that the ‘doctor’ is highly connected and hence no action has been initiated against him.
Herald investigations revealed that the ‘doctor’ is the brother of a highly influential deputy sarpanch in the locality, who is close to a Minister.
The ‘doctor’, who had tested positive in TrueNAT screening and negative later in second test, has now been confirmed positive for COVID 19 in RT PCR test.
