“They will have the freedom to interact with the people. After that we will meet with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh,” he said.
The committee would include advocates, thinkers and supporters and they are to give suggestions on the issue of special status and how to go about it.
It may be recalled that the Centre had rejected the State’s demand for special status. This was after Parrikar had in May 2013 apprised the Central government of the urgent need for granting special status to Goa, on the lines of Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal, under Article 371 or any other provision of the Constitution, for regulating the ownership and transfer of land in order to conserve the limited resources available for development and to ensure that the state preserves its unique identity.
However, the Centre had opined that this demand is in contravention of the Constitution, as Article 19 (1)(d) and 19(1)(e)of the Constitution..
