A delegation of the residents led by Suresh Shinkre called on Sarpanch Rosy Paes and urged the panchayat body to discuss the issue of the hotel project and the Talak housing project during Friday’s meeting. They also called upon the panchayat body to call the gram sabha at the earliest to discuss the hotel and other projects.
Shinkre later told the media that the delegation impressed upon the panchayat body to adopt a resolution not to go ahead with the widening of the road leading to the proposed hotel project site.
Pais later told Herald that the hotel project had figured in the panchayat body meeting held on Friday. She said the panchayat body will meet again on October 24 before the gram sabha meeting scheduled on October 26.
Participating in the discussions, panchayat member J Santan Rodrigues said the Panchayat cannot dictate terms to the Town and Country Planning department since issuing technical clearances to any project lies within their jurisdiction. He, however, said the VP, based on the gram sabha decision may cancel the construction license.
