PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday sought reports regarding pollution matter from various authorities including the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) etc within next 15 days in the Cuncolim Industrial Estate.
Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao along with citizens from Cuncolim met the Chief Minister and discussed the issue of complaints about illegalities and encroachments and pollution caused by some of the industries situated in the Cuncolim industrial estate and National Highway-66 dispute issue.
According to Alemao, the government had earlier sanctioned Rs 15 crore to shift about 50,00 ton hazardous waste from Cuncolim IDC to a landfill site at Pissurlem but suddenly decided to classify the hazardous waste.
Regarding ongoing national highway 66 works, Alemao said that earlier it was decided to construct the highway on stilts from Dandeawado junction up to Uskini band but now the Union Ministry changed the plan and decided to construct the highway on ground, which will displace residents.
Sawant assured Alemao that action will be initiated against the industries indulging in illegalities in the Cuncolim IDC after receiving the report and added that he would write to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), New Delhi not to change the approved plan and to construct the highway on stilts.
