PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Monday stated that Goa will enhance the infrastructure in time to host the 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
“We now are concluding the 47th edition of IFFI. We have another three years to celebrate the 50th year of this festival. The 50th will be very special to us and the State of Goa,” Parsekar said at the festival’s concluding ceremony. “The central government has promised funding to set up permanent infrastructure to host IFFI,” he added.
He said that IFFI 2016 has been a success and the festival is taking Goa to another level. He added that IFFI promotes Goa as a creative hub. “Some international directors during IFFI said that considering the response received, they have been encouraged to shoot their films in Goa,” Parsekar said.
He said that Konkani film ‘K Sera Sera’, which was in the Indian Panorama section, received a massive response and its screening had to be repeated and it had a full house the second time too.
“This IFFI has enabled business opportunities from both ends and being only eight days, we have managed to successfully pull off the festival in an excellent manner,” he said.
The closing ceremony saw a musical performance by Sachin-Jigar. Bahubali Director S S Rajamouli was the chief guest. The Golden Peacock was won by ‘Daughter’, a drama set in Southern Iran.
Besides Parsekar, Governor Mridula Sinha, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Col Rajyavardhan Rathore, Jury Chairperson Ivan Passer and other Jury members Subhash Ghai and Nana Patekar were present.
