MARGAO: Regulated mining will commence in Goa in October 2015. This was announced by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar in the course of his speech at the 107th Annual General Meeting of the GCCI held on Saturday. He said it was important to emphasize that it was regulated mining that would start and it would help the State’s economy.
He said the State had suffered following the ban on mining and Goa had lost several hundreds of crores in earnings and it was very difficult for his government to manage the budget. He slammed the earlier Congress government for weighing down the State with outstanding debts, which had to be paid off.
The State, he said, needed to see the government and private sector to work together to improve its economy.
He said it was important because job creation was a pressing function given that mining was now banned. Mining was, he said, a very big employer in the State. With 40 months having being completed by the government, he said the government had another 20 months to govern and he felt his government was doing a good job.
The Chief Minister revealed his government had cleared 43 projects, which would provide 8000 jobs for Goans in the State. These proposals, he said, were valued at Rs 3137 crore and displayed the seriousness of his government to generate jobs.
He said as a Goan he was always thinking about the welfare of his State and it was visible in the fact that he had planted 2000 saplings around Goa and he would like his family to keep thinking of the State.
