CM reacts to Cong allegation, says govt committed to equal development of State

PANJIM: Amid allegations from the Congress that no restricted development work has taken place in the constituencies represented by the Opposition, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that his government has ensured equal development of the State with no discrimination.

Addressing the Goa Legislators’ Day event, Sawant said that the government is looking at the overall development of the State.

“We don’t differentiate between the ruling and Opposition constituencies. We have not neglected the Opposition represented constituencies. The government is ensuring overall development,” he said.

“Still, if anyone felt that we have not taken up the work in their constituencies, then kindly bring to my notice and I will see that the work is taken up on priority,” he said.

The Chief Minister was responding to the allegations by the Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao who charged that there are indirect instructions to boycott the work in the constituencies represented by Opposition MLAs.

Speaking further, Sawant said that the government is looking forward for constructive opposition.

He said that the Opposition should also praise government for its good work done in the interest of the State.

“Like the Mopa Airport, the first State revenue sharing airport. Also we have successfully e-auctioned four mining blocks. This will also ensure revenue for the State,” he said.

Himachal Pradesh Governor and former Goa Speaker Rajendra Arlekar was the chief guest of the event. Goa Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar along with several current and former MLAs were present.

Fearing that Goa Assembly may return back to adopting paper system in its functioning, Sawant urged the Speaker to look into the technicalities and ensure that the working of the Assembly remains paperless.

“For a progressive State like Goa, going paperless is need of the hour. Recently some legislators asked for piles of papers. Speaker should look into the technicalities and ensure that the working of the Assembly remains paperless,” he said.

Sawant said that the Goa Legislative Assembly became the first in the country to go completely paperless in 2014, when Rajendra Arlekar was the Speaker.
