MARGAO: Chief Minster Manohar Parrikar has said his government has not received any directions from the Centre to roll back the entry tax, even as he reminded the later that Goa was a state and not a Union Territory anymore to issue directions to it.
Speaking to reporters at the District Collectorate South on Saturday, Parrikar demanded to know from the media whether the letter has been written by the transport secretary or joint secretary or by some Congress people. “I have checked up with the transport secretary, who has feigned ignorance about the letter. Moreover, even if the transport department has received the letter from the Centre, the former has nothing to do with the tax,” he asserted, while demanding to know whether the Centre has studied the issue before issuing the direction.
Replying to a question, he said the government was ready to work out a solution, but not under threat. “Solution does not mean the other party has to be satisfied. A solution can be worked out for those who really face a problem,” he observed.
