PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday reiterated that the indefinite strike of 650 odd lifeguards guarding the 105 kilometer-long Goa coast ‘is not government’s lookout’. He said that if the lifeguards are deprived of their rights they should approach the proper authorities.
Parsekar, however, said he sympathises with the lifeguards but the way they have called for a strike is not proper.
“This is not fair the way they have gone on strike at the peak of the tourist season in Goa. They should not have done it, this is not in the interest of the State,” Parsekar said.
Parsekar said the government has outsourced the work to a private company, and the government cannot dictate payments and policies to the company. He, however, said that the lifeguards should have approached the Labour Commission or Labour Court if any injustice was done to them.
Over 650 lifeguards are on an indefinite strike at Panjim since December 27 demanding that their pending issues be resolved.
