PORVORIM: CM Pramod Sawant cited a Supreme Court judgment to reject the Opposition’s demand for an employment policy ensuring job security for contract staff employed in government departments for over five years.
The Opposition pointed out that many Goans have worked on contracts for 15-20 years without regularisation. St. Andre MLA Viresh Borkar’s resolution for an employment policy received support from all Opposition MLAs, with Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai calling for unity despite political differences.
The Chief Minister stated that his government provides maximum benefits to contractual staff. As the resolution was not withdrawn, it was defeated by a majority vote.
