CM: Reservation for Goans in industries not possible

Policy to benefit industries employing Goans soon; Old KTC buses to be scrapped

PANJIM: Virtually ruling out reservation for locals in industries, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that the government will come out with a policy which will give more benefit to industries who employ Goans.
The Opposition had criticised the government for not making 80% reservation for Goans in the new industries which have been granted approval by Investment Promotion Board.
“The reservation for Goans in industries is not possible, however, we will come out with industrial policy in next two three months which will have positive discrimination,” Parrikar said while replying to the cut motions on demands for Labour.
He said that the policy will give benefit to industries who employ Goans.
On the employment front, the chief minister said that the government is also encouraging self employment for youth through CMRY and subsidy to dairy farmers.
“The government is giving Rs 50k subsidy to every farmer costing Rs 41 cr to govt annually,” he said.
KTC BUSES: The state government has planned to convert the old Kadamba buses into mobile toilets for migrant labourers.
“Normally the eight-year-old buses are scrapped by KTC but I have now told them not to do so and instead we will modify them and use them as mobile toilets,’ he said.
RIVER NAVIGATION: Parrikar said that his government plans to commercialise various ferry routes in Goa. He said that the routes like Betim-Panjim can also be considered for commercial purpose.
Govt to grant Subsidy to individuals, NGOs providing shelter to pets 
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar announced that the government will grant subsidy to individuals and NGOs who will provide shelter to pets and unproductive cattle.
“The government is ready to grant 80 per cent subsidy on feeding cost and 90 % on infrastructure cost,” he said. Parrikar said that the scheme will be ready in next 2-3 months. However, he said, the only criteria would be the person should have passion for animals. Parrikar also rued the fact that there are not enough veterinary doctors available to treat cattle. “I cannot fill the posts of veterinary doctors as it is reserved for ST candidate and we don’t have such candidates,” he said.
