CM reviews progress of four-lane NH at Vasco

VASCO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant paid a visit to Vasco port town and reviewed the progress of four-lane National Highway 17-B project at Baina and announced that the stretch from Varunapuri to Sada junction (5.3 km) section will be opened for vehicular traffic by December 19.

Later, the Chief Minister held a meeting of all the stakeholders of the project wherein he directed the contractor company to expedite the work and complete the project at the earliest. 

The Chief Minister stated that since the major portion is ready, the project should be completed on priority and the main portion has to be opened for vehicular traffic by December.

Minister for Urban Development Milind Naik, Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, Principal Chief Engineer of PWD U Parsekar and other officials were present.

The meeting was followed by the site inspection of Varunapuri to Sada junction flyover stretch. The Chief Minister was informed about the various aspects of the works undertaken for the project.

Sawant maintained that the Varunapuri to Sada junction flyover is the main scope of four-laning of National Highway 17-B project and will play significant role in overall development of the Vasco town once the work is completed. 

The project has been initiated by PWD along with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Mormugao Port Trust. It was started in October 2015 and cost is approximately Rs 500 crore.

Earlier, Sawant with Milind Naik held a meeting regarding the road construction project and reviewed its progress. 

The project includes road from Baina to Sada junction and sada junction to Antarctica Centre.
