PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant reviewed preparedness for the upcoming Ganesh Festival in the State with the senior police officials directed to ensure water-tight security during the festive period.
During the meeting on Thursday at CM’s official residence, the senior police officers led by Director General of Police Pranab Nanda briefed Sawant regarding security measures taken whilst instructions issued to Sarvajanik Ganesh mandals to follow strict safety guidelines such as installation of CCTV cameras with minimum 15 days storage capacity, deployment of private security personnel and volunteers in and around the venue, etc.
“We briefed the CM the entre security plan chalked out during Ganesh Chaturthi. Although there are no intelligence inputs of possible terror strikes, we are maintaining high security vigil all across the State. We cannot take a chance as we are a tourist destination and during every festive period, the number of visitors escalates. Therefore, security is of utmost priority to us,” a senior officer, who was amongst those present at the meeting, told Herald. The Goa Police’s Anti Terrorist Squad is also on alert to keep a check on suspicious activities.
Sources said that higher ranking police officers will also be on duty during the festival break to personally take stock of the situation.
