MAPUSA: The North Goa Pradesh Congress Committee has slammed the government, Aldona MLA and the PWD Minister for failing to fix the dividers on the Mapusa-Bastora underpass.
The Congress has demanded that the government put up a strong railing in place of these plastic dividers as a permanent solution and ensure safety of those commuting along the route.
Taking cognisance of a report in Herald, the Congress held a press conference last Thursday where it demanded that the dividers be fixed or else the party workers would do the needful.
Living up to their promise, Congress workers fixed and erected the fallen plastic dividers on Wednesday evening.
Addressing the media, at the Mapusa-Bastora junction, Congress spokesman Amarnath Panjikar slammed the government for being irresponsible and insensible towards the needs of the locals.
“The government is not bothered about the problems of the people. They play dumb, blind and deaf towards the needs of the people of Goa. We even met the Principal chief engineer who promised to undertake the work, but nothing was done; hence, we were forced to do it ourselves. The Aldona MLA travels on this road and he, too, has turned a blind eye to these dividers that had fallen. If he had to direct someone, this work would have been done. But he is not bothered about the safety of his people. He is not bothered about the needs of the people. Maybe he is upset because he was not given a ministerial berth or else he is behaving irresponsibly towards his people,” Panjikar said.
“I ask the government to wake up and stop playing with the lives of the people of Goa. The authorities have failed to provide the people with basic facilities — be it water, electricity or even roads. I request the government to perform their duty properly and on time. Do not make us to come out and disgrace the government authorities time and again. I request the government to wake up and serve the people,” he added.
Ten days ago Herald had reported that stray cattle that squat on the road destroyed the plastic road dividers erected on the Mapusa-Bastora underpass.
