PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar ruled out the possibility of banning the Sanatan Sanstha in Goa. He said the organization cannot be blamed because one individual is a suspect in a murder.
“You cannot blame the whole organization because one member or volunteer is suspected to be involved in a murder case,” Parsekar said.
On Tuesday, BJP MLA Vishnu Wagh had demanded a ban on the Sanstha. The Congress echoed the demand on Wednesday. However, Parsekar, who holds the Home portfolio, made clear where the government stands on the issue.
Sanatan Sanstha, headquartered in Goa, has been involved in controversies since the October 2009 Margao Diwali-eve blast. Though the case has been dismissed by the special court, NIA that is investigating the case, has challenged this in the High Court. NIA sources said the case was dismissed on technical grounds.
The Sanstha returned to the limelight after the NIA that is probing the murder of rationalist Govind Pansare arrested Samir Gaikwad a volunteer of the Sanstha. During interrogation, Gaikwad revealed that he was in constant touch with Rudra Patil, an accused in the Margao blast who is absconding.
