PANJIM, FEB 2
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has said the State Government will not nationalise waterways of Goa.
The Chief Minister made the statement during ‘Question Hour’ on Wednesday while responding to a question placed by Mayem MLA Anant Shet.
The Central Government had moved a proposal to declare Goa rivers as national water ways.
Earlier, Minister for River Navigation Sudin Dhavlikar in his written reply, however, told the House that the proposal is in its preliminary stage and a draft Cabinet note to declare the rivers of Goa as national waterways has been forwarded to the Government.
The Opposition Leader Parrikar questioned the jurisdiction of River Navigation Department in handling this matter.
He said, Captain of Ports should have a say in this matter and there has to be a clarity on jurisdiction.
Intervening at this point, the Chief Minister clarified that the proposal has been shelved and the Government has no intention to nationalise waterways of Goa.
