CM Sawant celebrates Goa’s ethos of peace and unity at Pilar Fathers’ Christmas High Tea gala

MARGAO: The Society of Pilar celebrated the spirit of Christmas with a Festive Christmas High Tea, held at Pilar Pilgrim Centre on December 25, with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in attendance.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sawant emphasised the message of peace, love, and unity embedded in the teachings of Jesus. He highlighted the importance of truth and service, citing them as fundamental values conveyed in the Bible. Commending the Society of Pilar for their contributions to education and the preservation of Goa’s culture and unity, Sawant added, “Harmony and unity has been the identity of Goa. In India, often there have been attempts to bring division among people on the basis of caste and religion, however, such attempts have been thwarted by the people of Goa. Since 1961, the rest of India sees Goa as the beacon of unity.”

The host of the event, Rev Fr Nazareth Fernandes, Superior General of the Society of Pilar, expressed the significance of Christmas as a celebration of peace. He emphasised that the Church serves as the visible face of Jesus Christ through its dedication to serving humanity. He thanked the Chief Minister and government officials for their support in advancing the Society’s mission to serve the less fortunate. “The Pilar Fathers and brothers are the visible face of Goans throughout India and abroad, to carry the message of peace, harmony, joy and love that exists among Goans, although we may belong to different creeds,” said Fr Fernandes.

The programme featured carol performances in Konkani, Hindi, and English by the Saviourites of Loutolim, a group of over 45 singers and musicians.

CM Sawant applauded their versatility and contribution to the festive atmosphere.
