PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday distributed cheques offering financial assistance to flood-affected victims beginning from Tiswadi taluka.
Addressing the people during the event held at Secretariat, Sawant urged the people who partially or fully lost their houses in floods to apply before concerned authorities to claim the benefits under various schemes such as ‘Pradhan Mantri Awaz Yojana’ and ‘Atal Asra Yojana’.
“Disaster is not in our hands but providing help is in our hands. The government is with you in your sorrow. The government has provided financial assistance in a very short span of time and anyone who has suffered loss and has not been given the compensation can contact the concerned authority so that relief can be provided to them,” he said.
“We are also working on providing those farmers help who have suffered losses to their crops,” he said in the presence of Minister for Revenue Jennifer Monserrate and district collectorate officials.
Thanking the CM for enhancing the compensation amount, Monserrate thanked the people for being cooperative and enabling the authorities to complete the procedure in time. Compensation to victims in other talukas will be completed before Ganesh Chaturthi, an official said.
