CM says IIT Goa campus will surely come up soon

PONDA: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that a permanent IIT campus will be set up in Goa within a short span of time.

Addressing IIT students at a Convocation ceremony function held at the Rajiv Kala Mandir, the CM said “Over the years, all efforts to set up IIT campus in Goa, including various places at Sattari, Canacona and Sanguem were in vain. Now I want to tell that for ‘sure shot’, the permanent IIT Campus will be set up in Goa within a short period of time.”

His announcement was followed by a thunderous applause by students.

Goa Chamber of Commerce Chairman Nitin Cuncolienkar, Devang Khakkar of IIT Mumbai, IIT Goa Director B K Misra, and Prof Sachin Kore were present on the dais. He also urged the IIT students to share their knowledge for the growth and development of the nation by providing technical solutions and remedial measures on various problems faced by society and the government.

The CM said that Goa is a well known tourist destination but the rough sea and mighty waves have led to soil erosion on Goa’s pristine coastline and every year the sea seems to be changing its pattern due to climatic changes.

Dr Sawant called on the IIT students to protect the environment and also hailed them for rendering consultancy services in ship lifting etc and also lauded the IIT for reaching out to Covid patients during the pandemic.
