VASCO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that he will try to find solutions to railway double tracking wherever possible and alleged that some elements were trying to politicise the issue.
Speaking at the inauguration of the two National Cyclone Disaster Mitigation Centres at Sancoale and Cuelim-Cansaulim in Cortalim constituency, Sawant said that as far as double tracking work is concerned, Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas is doing a good job and is continuously in discussion with the Railways authorities.
“He (Vas) had a meeting with me as well on Wednesday with all the details and we have also called the Railways for talks. We are trying to find a solution wherever possible and some solutions are already drawn at some places where we have done some alignment of tracks as well,” he said.
The Chief Minister also assured Vas that the government will provide all help to him in development works undertaken in his constituency.
He said that one of his projects i.e. Zuarinagar market complex built by the GSIDC will be completed and thrown open for the public. The government will also undertake the work of developing the Kesarval Spring. He also appealed to youth to undergo skilled education and enrol for the short-term and long-term training
He said that jobs would be made available in the hospitality and pharmaceutical industry.
Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated two National Cyclone Disaster Mitigation centres in Sancoale and Cuelim. The cyclone centres have a capacity to shelter about 400 to 500 people during disaster and are cyclone proof. Eleven such centres are being built all over Goa with all facilities under the National Cyclone Risk Management Project-II (funded by World Bank), he said.
WRD Minister Shubash Shirodkar, Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas, ZP Members Anita Thorat and Merciana Vas and panchayat members were present.
Pointing to the climate change and that nobody can predict cyclones or storms, Sawant said that the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is monitoring the situation and intimating the State department from time-to-time and advising on safety precautions. He also appealed to the people not to misuse these shelters and to maintain them as their own.
