CURCHOREM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar stated that his government will formulate a new scheme to provide assistance to students attending seminars or presenting papers outside the country.
He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the new building of Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Quepem, and inaugurating the silver jubilee year celebrations of the college.
Speaking further, Parrikar urged teachers to impart education to improve knowledge of students. “Some institutions teach students without imparting true knowledge and students often get confused on what to do after acquiring a degree,” he said.
“My government will soon come out with a new scheme to help students keen to attend seminars or present their papers outside India. The government will not hesitate to spend when it comes to providing educational facilities to the children as they are the future of our country,” added Parrikar.
Industries Minister Mahadev Naik expressed displeasure that very few students from the OBC community pursue further studies in professional courses despite providing them with a lot of facilities.
Quepem MLA Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, Curchorem MLA and GTDC Chairman Nilesh Cabral, Goa Infrastructure Development Corporation (GIDC) Chairman Dr Pramod Sawant, Goa Infotech Chairman Subhash Phaldessai and Tivim MLA Kiran Khandolkar were present on the occasion.
The total estimated cost of the first phase of the proposed project is Rs 27.35 crore, which consists of four blocks for Science, Commerce and Arts courses and a separate administrative wing, which includes a multipurpose hall to accommodate 800 persons.
Earlier, Principal Bhaskar Nayak welcomed the gathering, while Vice Principal Dr Ashok Maldulkar later proposed the vote of thanks.
