CM seeks special package to tide over mining revenue loss

Meets Sitharaman and Shah to press for demand

PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, who is in the national capital for the GST Council Meet, held meetings with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Home Minister Amit Shah over mining and special financial package issues.
Sources said that the chief minister met Sitharaman and sought a special financial package from the Centre to deal with the direct revenue loss of Rs 1,400 crore on account of closure of mining industry in last few years. 
Sawant, sources say, also asked the Central government to help the State through Centrally sponsored hinterland tourism projects in order to deal with tourism infrastructural challenges as the result of high tourist inflow. 
Chief Minister also sought help in upcoming budget for building convention centre and developing Goa as educational and health hub.
Earlier, Chief Minister met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss Goa politics and resumption of mining in the State. The two leaders also discussed the issue related to restarting of mining in the State. 
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sawant ruled out any possibility of Cabinet reshuffle in the light of rumours doing rounds in the State that some ministers will be dropped and new will be inducted.
