BICHOLIM: Around 17 families at Vathadev in Bicholim got a sigh of relief for some time with the intervention of the chief minister, whose houses were to be demolished.
The process of demolishing 17 houses in Vathadev was suppose to start from Wednesday for road widening from Vhalshim to Virdi via Vathadev. This was temporarily halted after the Karapur-Sarvan Panchayat authorities met Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant requesting him to stop the demolition.
It may be noted that some days ago State government authorities had sent notices to Karapur-Sarvan Panchayat regarding demolishing of 17 houses in Vathadev area which posed hurdles in road widening process. Accordingly, the officials of Public Works Department along with all the machinery arrived at Bicholim from Panjim.
However, in the morning, Sarpanch Sushma Sawant and panch members Rasool Madar, Mahesh Sawant and others along with some villagers met Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and demanded to stop the demolition process until the houses are relocated.
