PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday emphasised the need for simplifying the external examination process for repeat candidates and urged the Goa Board to take measures to deter individuals from resorting to acquiring fake educational certificates from other State Boards.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new building of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) at Porvorim, Sawant said, “If you fail in Class X and complete one-year of ITI course then you will be considered as Class X passed. If you fail Class X and complete two years of ITI, you will be considered as Class XII passed and they will also be eligible for government jobs.”
The Chief Minister also underlined the need for educational reforms, emphasising that they should focus on skill development rather than just job opportunities. He stressed that the objective of these reforms is to enhance the overall skill set of students, contributing to their holistic growth. Sawant’s remarks highlight the commitment to refining the education sector in Goa, ensuring a more straightforward examination process and promoting genuine educational achievements.
Sawant also narrated his own experience as to how he got admission in Science stream and took one-year break at Class XII to secure good marks for selection to MBBS degree course but missed the merit list by per cent less. He then had to join the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS). He also said that he missed first class in SSC exams by 0.5 per cent but was determined to join Science stream and was lucky to get admission in PES Higher Secondary School, Ponda, which had newly started the course and were in need of students.
