CM: SUMUL entry is a trial

PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said SUMUL’s entry into Goa’s dairy farming sector is on a trial basis.

Introducing competition to the hitherto sole dairy cooperative – Goa State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd – Goa government has paved the way for Surat District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited (SUMUL) to set up large-scale dairy farms in the Amul pattern.
In a notification issued two days ago, the government stated that the Gujarat-based dairy cooperative union’s entry in Goa will benefit and improve socio-economic conditions of the State’s dairy farmers.
Speaking in the Assembly, Parsekar said, “I will assure the farmers they will get better rates and will not face any problems.” 
due to entry of SUMUL.” He, however, cautioned farmers and Goa Dairy to be more active and more competitive.
“No injustice will be done to Goa Dairy or farmers but at the same time they need to be competitive,” he said.
