MARGAO: Asserting that all students of Std V and VI will get tabs by February 15, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday said that all schools in the state will be covered with Wi Fi facility by December.
Without taking names, the Chief Minster also pooh poohed the claims made in certain quarters that branded tabs are available for price of Rs 7200 and dared them to supply the tabs at the same rate.
Speaking at Benaulim on Sunday noon, the Chief Minister told the students not to worry if they have not yet received the promised tablets.
“Last year’s students of Std V and VI, who had applied by paying Rs 25 will get the tabs by February 15. Students of std VIII, who will have to apply now should the tabs by June-July this year”, the Chief Minister told the students after distributing tabs for students of Benaulim schools in the presence of Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva at Benaulim Panchayat ghar.
Saying that the tabs supplied to the students are branded ones and of high quality, the Chief Minister said the government was open to give the tab supply tender to anyone willing to supply a branded and quality tab at a cost of Rs 7200. It’s now 20 days since we had given the offer, but no one has turned up to take the offer”, he said, adding that the issue caused further delay in the distribution of tabs for the children.
Saying that all schools will be connected with the Wi Fi facility, Parrikar allay apprehensions of parents, saying the facility will provide only educational content and will block all unwanted sites.
“We will block the unwanted sites. The wi fi facility will have only informative and news sites”, he added.
