PANJIM: Inaugurating the World Trade Centre (WTC), Goa at Panjim on Saturday, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar took a dig at the previous government (Congress) saying investors had a bitter experience in the past.
“The investors had a very bitter experience with the past government, but now the BJP government will ensure that all investors will be treated well and with respect. We will also tie-up with the WTC, Goa to promote IT Park at Chimbel and also the Electronic City at Tuem, Pernem. It is time now that the Goan youth get the best avenues in the State and WTC can play an important role in this,” Parsekar said.
He admitted that in the last few years there has been an exodus of well-educated Goan youth to other neighbouring States in search of jobs and hoped that setting up of WTC-Goa will help in bringing much-needed investment to the State which will lead to creation of good employment opportunities.
After having established WTC Mumbai in 1970, Bhubaneswar in Odisha, Jaipur in Rajasthan, the WTC will commence services in Goa and proposes to create a world of opportunities for business in the region.
WTC, Mumbai is a member of the World Trade Centres’ Association (WTCA), New York integrating over 300 world trade centres worldwide across 100 countries. Together, WTCs serve over one million businesses which contributes one-third of the global trade.
WTC Mumbai Vice Chairman Capt Somesh Batra said, “By establishing WTC in Goa you have sent the message across the world that Goa not only welcomes tourists but has opened its doors to investors as well as international trade. I would like to invite my fellow businessmen of Goa to support our initiatives as this is your World Trade Centre and it is up to you to project the image of Goa’s industrial potential to the world through this platform.”
WTC, Mumbai Director Rupa Naik said WTC under the UNDP will set up an entrepreneurial and expert development programmes in mid-November and later take on the ‘Make In India’ campaign in the State. “We will soon have our own building in Goa,” she added.
WTC, Mumbai Executive Director YR Warerkar said that WTC Goa will help “connect globally to prosper locally”. Being an integral part of the WTCA, helps increase visibility and identity of the region and it also opens doors to its members through its reciprocity services, he said.
