VASCO: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Urban Development Minister Milind Naik inspected on Tuesday the flyover connecting berth Number 9 at Mormugao port and Varunapuri.
On the occasion, Naik said that the ropeway project and the facelift given to the cruise terminal would boost tourism by attracting more tourists.
The chief minister said, “This flyover and national highway project were getting delayed due to various reasons. To speed up the work, I met the urban development minister, PWD officials, consultants, Gamon India Pvt Ltd Contractors. This visit was to revise and review the progress of this project.”
He disclosed that the flyover project is facing a major hurdle: cost sharing between the MPT, National Highway Authority of India and Goa government.
However, he informed that he has issued an order to speed up the work. “By April 2020, highway road at Varunapuri will be completed,” he said adding that the over-bridge work at Varunapuri would start immediately.
“The up-ramp from the Maharaja Hotel work will start shortly and down-ramp has been finalised. To avoid traffic congestion, precautions will be also taken when the ramp work starts. Baina down ramp work will also start, the remaining cable stayed bridge will also commence. Our target for this work is December 2021, but it might get delayed a bit due to the volume of work,” he said.
