CM to announce new waste mngmt plan in next Budget

VASCO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant disclosed that he will announce a good waste management proposal in the next State Budget to treat and dispose the legacy waste and ensure that the garbage is not piled up across the State anymore.

Sawant stated that during the inauguration of two National Cyclone Disaster Mitigation centres at Sancoale and Cuelim-Cansaulim, on Thursday. 

He said that the State government was spending around Rs 500 crore annually to treat the legacy waste that was piled up by the previous governments for over 50 years. 

Stating that the garbage was dumped by the people, he requested the people to reduce the use of plastic and stop dumping garbage along the roadsides. 

He cautioned that a time will come when people will have to live in garbage filled areas if they don’t stop dumping garbage along roadsides. Garbage keeps getting piled up all over the area and this will also cause health hazards and create many other issues for the people living in the area. 

The Chief Minister said that the Water Resources Department will be the implementing agency for the two National Cyclone Disaster Mitigation centres, which will be provide all the required infrastructure and facilities if the people have to be shifted even for a long period.
