PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday seeking his intervention for immediate resumption of iron ore mining activities in the State, which have been shut since March 2018.
Sawant, who left for New Delhi on Tuesday, is also likely to raise the contentious Mhadei River water diversion issue, seeking necessary directions to Karnataka that has allegedly diverted the river water.
This is Sawant’s first visit to Delhi post the COVID-19 unlock. He had met Prime Minister in March, just before the pandemic could hit the country.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said he will meet the Prime Minister on Wednesday after almost six months. “The most important issue of the meeting is his intervention to restart mining
activities. The matter is pending in the Supreme Court for long. I will request PM to take steps for mining resumption,” Sawant said.
Sources said that along with mining and Mhadei, the Chief Minister will also appraise the Prime Minister about the current COVID situation and seek financial support.
In view of the CM’s visit to Delhi, the crucial first meeting of the PPP cell and Mopa Airport Development Authority scheduled on Wednesday stands postponed.
