PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar would be moving a resolution to press for Special Status for Goa before the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national executive meeting on Sunday, party spokesman Prakash Javadekar said.
The BJP-led state government has been pressing for Special Status for Goa under Article 371 of the Constitution, considering the small size of the state and difficulty in protecting its natural resources. A resolution has been
passed in the recently concluded session of the state legislative assembly to this effect.
Parrikar had moved the resolution, which also spoke about protecting the identity of the state. Sources said that the BJP would be requesting its senior leaders to take up the matter before parliament and press for Special Status for the state.
