PANJIM: After stating that the State’s tax collections have gone down compared to VAT, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said he would oppose the E-way transport billing system.
The system, to be introduced by the Central government under GST, has been facing opposition from major states. “The E-way transport billing system is actually nullifying the single tax system in GST,” Parrikar said.
Parrikar said that Goa is the first State which has really opened up to GST. “The first thing I did was remove the check post charging entry tax based on one nation one tax. While others are not doing so but I am sure others will slowly fall in line,” he said.
He said that E-way will be another tax equal to GST, “…hence I am going to oppose it at GST council,” Parrikar said.
He further stated that GST was introduced to keep a check on illegal traders but, has become a pesky task for genuine traders. He was speaking at the function organised for clarifying doubts about GST among traders. Parrikar said that once the GST is streamlined it would be fruitful for government and traders.
