PORVORIM: Even as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant condemned the Manipur violence and incident of parading two women naked and gang rape by a mob in the Assembly on Friday, he also hit out at the opposition saying “no one needs to make a big natak (drama) over this, everyone knows about this incident”.
Making a statement in the Legislative Assembly soon after the question-hour, Sawant said, “Firstly, being a responsible citizen of the country and the Chief Minister of the State, my heart is full of pain and anger and I convey my sentiments of solidarity with the victims of the horrific unfortunate incidents.”
Earlier, as soon as the House met for the day, Opposition members created uproar.
The oppositon demanded a dedicated discussion on the Manipur violence. The two AAP MLAs wearing black clothes as a mark of protest brushed to the well of the House and demanded the Chief Minister’s statement on the matter.
Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas brought the attention of the House to the disturbing incident in Manipur in which two women were disrobed, paraded and gang raped by a mob in Manipur.
In response, the CM said, “No one needs to make a big drama (natak) over this, everyone knows about this incident. The Prime Minister and the Government of India will take the strongest possible action against the culprits.”
Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar refused to accept the Benaulim MLAs demand, and began the question hour. But they were supported by other opposition MLAs, and finally the Chief Minister assured members that he will make a statement after question-hour was completed.
