MARGAO: Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat on Sunday urged Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant not to adopt dictatorship in Goa.
“The Goa Revolution Movement led by Dr Ram Manohar Lohia liberated Goa from 450 years of Portuguese rule. In this 60th year of Goa Liberation, it is the duty of the Government to give liberty to people of Goa to exercise their democratic rights and allow them to protest peacefully to protect the identity of Goa. I urge the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant not to adopt dictatorship,” Kamat said.
He was reacting to the high-handedness of the police on the peaceful agitators at Arossim during their midnight vigil and arrests of students and activists at Panjim on Goa Liberation Day.
“Every Goan has the democratic right to protest peacefully and raise their concerns, especially with regards to protecting the identity and environment of Goa”, he said while condemning the police action.
“Goa has history of pre and post liberation agitations and all these agitations have been focus of protecting Goa’s identity and cultural heritage,” he said.
