PONDA: Gomantak Majdoor Sang (Sanjivani Employees Union) General Secretary Puti Gaonkar on Friday urged the Chief Minister to conduct a Vigilance Committee probe into Sanjivani Sugar Factory scam and also inquiry into the working of its administrator.
“In order to save the factory from scams a probe into sugar deal is necessary,” said Gaonkar.
“There was a quotation for purchase of sugar at Rs 28 per kg. But instead of selling sugar for a higher rate it was sold at a lower rate. The lowest rates were quoted by three members of one family at Rs 22, Rs 22.50 and Rs 25 per kg,” Gaonkar alleged.
He said manufacturing in-charge and account in-charge were suspended by the Administrator Damodar Morjakar but this is not sufficient.
“Today (Friday) morning the administrator, without following proper procedure, has taken the documents and files of the suspended officials into his possession without completing the procedure of inward and outward files in the registrar book. The documents and files involving sale of sugar are now lying in the chamber of the administrator,” he added.
Gaonkar also opposed the move of the administrator taking into custody the accounts books after suspending the two officials connected in the alleged scam.
“In case important files go missing after this incident then who would be responsible?” Gaonkar questioned.
An e-tender was mandatory for the sale of sugar, he said, but instead the tender was advertised in some newspapers of Belgaum edition.
“A vigilance probe of the administrator is necessary to reveal whether he is innocent or not,” he added.
“Rs one crore sugar was sold without proper documents during the night time,” he alleged.
He said last year too there was a scam by former administrator to the tune of Rs 5 crore.
