MARGAO, APRIL 19
A delegation of the Fatorda Block Congress led by Vijai Sardesai called on the Chief Minister and urged him to get rid of the two scrap yards on the Nuvem-Arlem section of the Eastern bypass on a priority basis.
Saying that scrapyards have mushroomed and grown into veritable eye sores in the recent past, the delegation impressed upon the CM to remove the scrap yards in the past as similar requests had fallen on deaf ears giving an impression that the scrap yards have political patronage in continuing with their illegal business.
The GPCC General Secretary also stressed on the need to create a green corridor on both sides of this road so that the best forms of traditional Goan horticulture and kitchen gardening can be showcased in this green area. The state Govt. agricultural dept. & horticulture Corporation should focus on conserving and reviving traditional Goan forms of horticulture that is being hindered to sustain by the local population on their own strength, the delegation said.
The Chief Minister pointed out to the delegation that the Govt. had conceptualized various schemes to promote horticulture and kitchen gardening in this annual budget so as to make it lucrative and attract Goan youth to it. The Chief Minister has in principle agreed to helping create this green corridor and has issued instructions to Govt. officials to get rid of the scrap yards which had become eye sores on this verdant stretch.
