PANJIM: A day after Opposition benches created ruckus in the House over the coal issue, the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant urged the political opponents to introspect and work in the interest of the people.
In war of words on social media, the Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, however, countered the Chief Minister stating “some actions come as a reaction”.
Irked by the incomplete speech from the Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on the floor of the House, on Monday, the Opposition Congress, Goa Forward Party, MGP and Independent legislators, started slogans “amkam naka, amkam naka, goyant coal amkam naka” holding hoardings and wearing black bands on their wrists. They criticised the Governor’s address for failing to have mention on contentious issues like coal and linear projects.
The Chief Minister termed the action as “inappropriate” and “unparliamentary”.
“On the first day of the Assembly session, we saw inappropriate and unparliamentary action of the opposition benches towards the Governor,” CM tweeted.
“The opposition should introspect, uphold the democratic values and also work in the interest of the people,” he tweeted further.
In a quick reaction to the Chief Minister’s tweet, the Leader of Opposition also took on social media to urge government to listen to the emotions, sentiments and aspirations of the people.
“Government must listen to the emotions, sentiments, aspirations of the people and the duty of the opposition is to be the voice of the people,” Kamat tweeted.
“Some actions come as a reaction,” he tweeted further.
The former CM challenged government to show the courage to face the opposition at length in Assembly without resorting to shortcuts.
