PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has extended his best wishes to the people of Goa on the eve of the 37th anniversary of Goa Liberation Day.
In his message, the Chief Minister said, “On this memorable day, let us recall the valiant efforts of our freedom fighters, who fought against oppression and the remarkable role played by the Indian Army in liberating Goa from Portuguese rule.”
The Chief Minister appealed to the people to support the endeavours of the government in maintaining peace, law and order. “Our State is known for lush greenery, tranquility and communal harmony. On this day let us resolve, rededicate ourselves and unite to keep our State clean and tidy and to achieve future progress and development in all spheres,” the chief minister said.
Meanwhile Governor Mridula Sinha has extended her greetings and good wishes to the people of Goa on the occasion of Goa Liberation Day.
In her message, the Governor said, “19th December is indeed a landmark day, not only for the people of Goa, but also for the people of the rest of our country, because, it was on this day, in the year 1961, that the last vestige of colonial rule ended on Indian soil, thanks to the prolonged struggles made by our spirited and selfless freedom fighters, and the action of our brave jawans of our Defence Forces, who took over the territory. I am sure; the heart of every Goan is filled with inspiration and reverence, when she or he recalls the glorious contribution of the martyrs and freedom fighters, to the noble cause of liberation. I think the annual celebration of this day itself is a glorious tribute to their sacred memory.”
“Goa is one of the fastest growing States in the country. Its economic growth is driven by the strong performance of industrial sectors such as IT, Agriculture, Tourism and Pharmaceuticals. Goa has a well-developed social, physical and industrial infrastructure and virtual connectivity. It has an international airport at Dabolim and Goa will also soon boast of having a second International Airport at Mopa which is under construction. It is also has significant port infrastructure,” the Governor stated in her message.
