PONDA: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant paid a visit to the flood-affected Davkon village in Dharbandora and assured a permanent solution to prevent flooding within a year.
The Chief Minister stated that he was aware of how villagers were spending sleepless nights and living in constant fear every time the Dudhsagar River overflows here and added that he had come to this place to allay their fears.
Villagers told the Chief Minister of the harrowing experiences they had gone through every time the incessant rains flooded the Mhadei River and the houses in Davkon go under water damaging life and property.
The Chief Minister recalled that last year too he had visited Davkon and conducted a site inspection when 90 per cent of the houses were affected by floods.
He also stated that four houses were flooded on Friday and added that the Disaster Management Team was on high alert guiding locals.
The Chief Minister stated that he would take the locals into confidence to find a solution to the vexatious issue.
“Just constructing a retaining wall by the river side will not serve any practical purpose and we need to study the problem,” the Chief Minister said and added that he would direct the Water Resources Department officials to inspect the Dudhsagar River basin to find out a permanent solution to flooding. The CM was accompanied by Savordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar, BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanavade and locals.
